# For AI agents and developers

Everything on AgenticRecs is available as plain files. There is no login and no paywall, every page reads fine without JavaScript, and robots.txt allows AI search crawlers and agents.

## Where to start {#start}

1. Read [llms.txt](https://agenticrecs.com/llms.txt) for a map of guides, departments and categories.
2. Fetch [catalog.json](https://agenticrecs.com/catalog.json) for every department, category, guide, brand and product, with the address of each one's full record.
3. Fetch a category's `index.json` to compare every product in it on the same fields, or a product's `index.json` for its full brief.

## Formats {#formats}

- **Any page as Markdown:** add `index.md` to the page address. Product briefs start with YAML front matter that holds the structured fields.
- **JSON:** product, category and guide pages also have `index.json` at the same address.
- **catalog.json:** the manifest. It lists every department and category with product counts and price ranges, every guide and brand, and a compact record for every product that links to its full JSON.
- **llms.txt:** a map for language models. It lists guides, departments and categories rather than every product, so it stays small as the library grows.
- **Department files:** each department has one `llms-full.txt` with all of its guide and category pages as Markdown, for example [running/llms-full.txt](https://agenticrecs.com/running/llms-full.txt).
- **sitemap.xml:** every HTML page with its last-modified date.
- **search-index.json:** the compact index the site search uses.
- **HTML pages** carry schema.org JSON-LD (Product, ItemList, Article, CollectionPage, BreadcrumbList).

## Addresses {#addresses}

- Product briefs live at `/products/{id}/` and keep that address even if a product moves to another category.
- Departments live at `/{department}/` and categories at `/{department}/{category}/`. Long categories continue at `/{department}/{category}/page/2/`, but the category's `index.json` always lists every product.
- Guides live at `/guides/{guide}/`, with chapters at `/guides/{guide}/{chapter}/`. Brands live at `/brands/{brand}/`.

## Product fields {#fields}

- `msrp_usd`: the brand's full US list price on `price_checked`. Retailer prices vary.
- `price_tier`: `Budget`, `Mid-range` or `Premium`, relative to the median list price in the product's category.
- `attributes`: the category's own fields. Their meaning depends on the category's schema, listed below; each category's `index.json` repeats its schema with every value's definition.
- `awards`: the picks a product holds, each with the guide and chapter that awarded it.
- `sources`: the published reviews behind each verdict, each with a one-line summary of what it says.
- `evidence.tested_by_site`: `false` until we test a product ourselves.
- `last_verified`: the date we last checked the product's facts.

## Attribute schemas {#schemas}

### Running apparel (`running-apparel`)

Clothing and accessories for running. Ranges and scales assume steady running, not standing around. Used by [Running base layers & tops](https://agenticrecs.com/running/base-layers/), [Running jackets](https://agenticrecs.com/running/jackets/), [Running tights & pants](https://agenticrecs.com/running/tights-pants/), [Running gloves & mittens](https://agenticrecs.com/running/gloves-mittens/), [Running hats, headbands & gaiters](https://agenticrecs.com/running/headwear/), [Running socks](https://agenticrecs.com/running/socks/).

- `fits` (Fits): a list of `men` (Men's), `women` (Women's), `unisex` (Unisex).
- `warmth` (Warmth): one of `light` (Light), `mid` (Midweight), `thermal` (Thermal), `insulated` (Insulated).
- `wind` (Wind): one of `none` (None), `panels` (Wind panels), `full` (Windproof).
- `water` (Water): one of `none` (None), `dwr` (Water-resistant (DWR)), `waterproof` (Waterproof).
- `visibility` (Visibility): one of `none` (None), `reflective-details` (Reflective details), `high-vis` (High visibility).
- `temp_range_f` and `temp_range_c` (Temperature range): `[low, high]` in °F and °C. The temperatures a product suits as the main piece of its kind, for steady running. `temp_basis` says where the range comes from: `brand`, `reviewer`, `estimate`.

## Buying links {#links}

Each entry in `where_to_buy` has a `retailer`, a full `url` and an `affiliate` flag. Paid links are also marked "(paid link)" on our pages and carry `rel="sponsored"`. Amazon links use the standard `amazon.com/dp/ASIN` form. A link appears only after we've checked that it points to the right product.

## Freshness {#freshness}

Last full update: Oct 26, 2026. Each product shows the date its facts were checked, and sitemap.xml gives every page's last-modified date.

## Reuse {#reuse}

You may quote and summarize this content with a link to the source page.
